Katie Polk

Katie is our head trainer, a Chihuahua breeder and former Marine Corps K9 handler. Her passion for dogs took a pint-sized turn when she discovered Chihuahuas in 2016. Often misunderstood, the Chihuahua quickly became the breed she was determined to see thrive—not as yappy nuisances or aggressive ankle-biters, but as well-adjusted, loving companions. Katie’s pragmatic approach to training sets her apart, as does her focus on helping owners look inward for change. She believes that effective dog training often starts with the human, not the dog, and she skillfully guides owners toward greater self-awareness to create more balanced relationships with their tiny canine companions.

FAQs

Common Questions Answered

How long does the training take?

Every dog-and-owner team is unique, and the time it takes to create lasting change varies from case to case. Our consultation process begins with a 60-minute session, either in person or via Zoom, where we discuss the challenges you're facing and get a sense of whether we're the right fit as trainer and client.

After the consultation, we will go over my recommendations for moving forward and a projected timeframe.

What behavior issues do you address?

Tiny dogs are often prone to reactive behaviors such as excessive barking, biting, lap guarding, and general fear or anxiety. We specialize in addressing a wide range of issues unique to dogs of a smaller stature.

How much time will I have to spend training my dog each day?

Our approach focuses more on behavior modification than traditional "training." It's a lifestyle-based method that involves being mindful of how and when you interact with your dog to help develop a balanced temperament. In this way, the process is continuous—woven into your daily routine—rather than limited to a few minutes of structured training each day.
